Each piece in this portfolio springs from the philosophy that an original design brings more pleasurable use and greater investment appreciation. All of this furniture features hand planed surfaces. Such a procedure enhances the figure in the wood, yields a surface sensuous to the touch, and produces an ambiance which is evident in antiques but missing from today's factory made products. Other factors make a more subtle difference such as the care taken in selecting the materials for each piece and the quality standards that are maintained during the building process.
With regard to materials there is an ongoing search for interesting character detail. On occasion I buy logs and have them sawn and kiln dried locally, enabling me to participate in the decision as to how a log is sawn. This effort produces results that are almost impossible to find on the open market.
Let me state the obvious, the construction details are the best possible. The concern with quality permits no short cuts; the joinery methods insure structural integrity, and that's guaranteed. Should anything ever break, just bring it back to the shop and it will be repaired at no expense to you.
When you look through this collection you will see the results of this effort. Consider the proportions and the lines of each piece, look at the hardware selection and its placement, observe the use of color and the emotions of the color combinations. Further, while you can't touch it here, rest assured that the hand rubbed varnish finish is satiny smooth, easy to care for and impervious to water or alcohol. With proper maintenance it will last a lifetime only to be more beautiful for the next generation.
